The beginning of our journey: rain, castles and ghosts

When the great day finally arrived… it rained cats and dogs!  Nonetheless, we got on the bus ready for an exciting adventurous day to discover the wonderful landscapes and hidden rural places of our territory.

  We spent the morning in the countryside    visiting secluded and almost completely  uninhabited villages, like Bettegno, Campazzo, Scorzarolo and Cadignano. We walked through corn and wheat fields on the footsteps of our  ancestors who used to live and work there.
 In the afternoon, after having eaten our  packed-lunch and played tennis table and table  football on a local farm, we strolled  around its cute animals like donkeys, sheeps,  goats and chickens. We were also given some  precious information about the rearing of  silkworms, a tradition typical of the farms of bassa bresciana, which has unfortunately been gradually forgotten.

Later on we headed for Padernello, another little village famous for its castle and its legend about a little sick girl called Bianca. She had just moved from the city and knew nothing about countrylife. One night she saw some fireflies, totally mesmerised she followed them and accidentally fell into the ditch surrounding the castle. Her spirit is still alive and the ghost of little Bianca is said to haunt the place every fifteen years on 20th July. On that occasion the locals organize a tribute to her hoping to see her ghost. At around five o’ clock our trip was over and after an exciting but wet day we got home.

Our last trip: among history, art and trust

Heat, sun and wind: summer escorts us the whole day. First stop: Monticelli d’Oglio.  Sergio guided us through the streets and the hills of the little town as he told us legends, stories about ancient medieval courts and let us taste the fruits of the mulberry. The tour went on with a little walk over one of the Oglio river footbridges. The footbridge was partly financed by our guide, once mayor of the small town. A classmate riding a horse at the horse riding school At lunch, we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the   horse riding school “San Giorgio”, while eating a delicious pizza all together. After watching some videos, an exciting activity with a horse and a vaulting demonstration, Dalmazio and his horse Tobia led us into a new and more spiritual dimension with our new four hooved friends. One of the students had his finger bitten   by a funny pony and some others tried to ride a horse in an unrestrained gallop and by then the time to go home had come, and so we went

The second trip: a walk through wood, quicksand and birds

Second trip, more tired than the previous day, but enthusiastic. The weather is, as always, our enemy. Puddles, brushwood and mysterious animals: we entered an unknown territory, called by us “Giungla Padana” (the Padana Jungle). A glimpse of the river in Scarpizzolo During the first part of the morning, thanks to our guide Matilde, we had the chance to learn names of shrubs, trees and arboreal species followed by an explanation about the cataloguing of leaves and identification of plants. As a background there was the Scarpizzolo lake, situated north-east in relation to the small town of San Paolo. In the late morning, Mr. Arturo (member of the GRA, group for the avifauna researches of Gottolengo), responsible for the protection and the safeguard of Parco delle Vincellate, delighted us for more than an hour with the description of the autochthon fauna and the ecosystem, giving us the chance to listen to the song of some birds.   With shoes dirty with mud and survivors of
